1,603 Killed, 1,774 Kidnapped In Violent Attacks Across Nigeria In Three Months

Nigeria Mourns, a civil society coalition, has revealed that violent attacks across the country by terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and attacks have resulted in the deaths of 1,603 people between January and March 2021.
According to the Coalition, 1,774 people were abducted or kidnapped across the country within the same time period.
The figures were compiled using an examination of newspaper stories, interviews with victims’ families, and in some cases, confirmation by public and security officials, according to Ier Jonathan, a member of the Nigeria Mourns Coalition.
The data in the study titled “Violent Incidents Report: January – March 2021” are alarming, he said, but “not meant to be a criticism of the administration.”
“In the first quarter of 2021, Nigeria continued to face very high levels of armed violence, with very high body counts,” Ita said.
“According to our tracking, at least 1,603 people died in the country between January and March 2021,” the group announced on Twitter.
“The report found that 921 people were killed by suspected bandits, 207 people were slain by persons suspected of being members of Boko Haram or its breakaway faction, ISWAP, 205 people were killed in isolated attacks, and 106 people were slain in cult confrontations.
“In addition, 79 people were slain in extrajudicial killings, 53 people were slain in community conflicts, and 32 people were slain by herders.
“Ier Jonathan, a member of the Nigeria Mourns Coalition, said the data are concerning “but not intended to criticize the government.”
“Nigeria has been experiencing various sorts of insecurity for years,” it added of the rising instability. Many citizens demanded state police as a result of this.
Meanwhile, the FCT Police Command has said that it has begun investigations into the killing of a World Bank employee in Abuja by her husband following an argument about missing money.
According to reports, Mr. Makanjuola Ayedun, a resident of Isanlu community in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, accidentally killed his wife, Mrs Nike Ayedun, with a car.
However, neighbors said they overheard the pair shouting about missing money, and the guy threatened to crush his wife if she did not leave the gate before ramming his car into her.
It was also revealed that, due to the high speed, the car crossed an unpaved road and smashed into a structure, destroying some items.
When contacted, a senior police officer stated that the incident had been reported and that investigations into the incident had begun.
