Wike Fumes, Vows Top Senator Will Not Make It Back

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed that Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the FCT, will not return to the Senate in 2027.

His statement was in response to Senator Kingibe’s earlier criticism on Arise TV, where she claimed that FCT residents were dissatisfied with Wike’s performance.

During her appearance, Kingibe alleged that Wike was disconnected from the needs of FCT residents, citing issues such as the lack of schools, hospitals, and clean water in the territory.

In rebuttal, Wike asserted that he is not in office to please Senator Kingibe, emphasizing that he has achieved substantial progress within the short time since his appointment. Speaking at the launch of the Mabushi Bus Terminal in Abuja, Wike expressed disappointment that instead of collaborating with the FCT Administration, Senator Kingibe seemed more focused on criticizing and erroneously attributing residents’ praise to the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

Wike stated, “I heard someone on Arise TV this morning, purportedly a member of the National Assembly. It’s unfortunate that you don’t know what you don’t know. If we’ve done well, we’ve done well; if we haven’t, we haven’t. I challenge that legislator—if you’re so popular, run under Abuja in 2027 and see if you’ll succeed. We are not interested in seeking friendship; our work speaks for itself.”

He concluded by suggesting that if Senator Kingibe continues to be upset by the praise directed towards his administration, she should prepare for more accolades in the future, insinuating her potential lack of political support in upcoming elections.
