Nnamdi Kanu’s Wife Breaks Silence On IPOB Leader’s Re-Arrest

Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, the wife of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has spoken out about her husband’s re-arrest by the Nigerian government.

Nigerian security and intelligence agencies just nabbed Kanu.

After jumping bail in 2017, he was repatriated to resume his trial.

The secessionist is being held in the care of the Department of State Services, or DSS, until his trial resumes on July 26.

Uchechi said she was saddened when she learned that her husband had been re-arrested and repatriated to the country in an interview with The Sunday Times in the United Kingdom.

She admitted that she hasn’t spoken to her spouse since the event in late June.

“It’s hard for me to speak. I’m extremely devastated. He has been beaten and tortured and I am scared for his life.

“I was always worried about Nnamdi. When you’re asking for freedom from dictatorship, you are a target. But when I saw what happened in Belarus and how no one did anything, I knew nowhere was safe.

“The Nigerian government carrying out this rendition is a crime. We’re not even talking about independence,” She was quoted as saying.
