Twitter Is Back Online After Global Outage

Late Thursday night, Twitter had a global outage making its users across the world unable to tweet and see new tweets, but most could send and receive direct messages.

Minutes past midnight Friday morning, the app came back up and users across the globe began confirming that they could see notifications, tweet and refresh their pages.

While the company assures that there’s no evidence of a hack on its @TwitterSupport handle, the Twitter status website says it will investigate the downtime. Referring to the outage as an “unresolved incident,” they say they will be investigating an irregularity with Twitter APIs.

Typically, Twitter’s API platform provides broad access to public Twitter data that users have chosen to share with the world. They also support APIs that allow users to manage their own non-public Twitter information (e.g., Direct Messages) and provide this information to developers whom the users have authorized to do so.*
