TRAGEDY: Gunmen Ambush, Rain Bullets On Uba’s Convoy, Two Confirmed Dead

Gunmen targeted a convoy believed to be associated with the self-styled godfather of Anambra politics, Chief Chris Uba, in a violent incident last night.

Vehicles in the convoy were reportedly sprayed with bullets, leading to the tragic loss of two police officers assigned to the politician. Another political figure, Mr. Val Ozigbo, a Labour Party chieftain, narrowly escaped the attack.

According to a witness, “Chris Uba’s convoy ran into the men who were stationed at UGA junction, leading to a shootout. Uba escaped in a bulletproof vehicle, but the policemen were not so fortunate and lost their lives. Ozigbo, coming back from Owerri, wisely allowed the aggressive convoy to pass before encountering the gunmen at UGA junction, resulting in the tragic loss of two police officers.”

The intention of the attackers was suspected to be a kidnapping. While many individuals were reportedly injured, it remains unclear if anyone was abducted.

In response to the incident, the Anambra State Police Command, through its spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, issued a press release confirming the launch of an extensive manhunt for the assailants. The release stated, “The gang, disguised in military fatigue, opened fire on the officers. Other personnel returned fire, forcing the bandits to flee. The police-led mobile Forward Operating Base promptly responded, recovering a Lexus SUV used by the gang and defusing an improvised explosive device. An AK-47 rifle belonging to one of the slain personnel was also recovered.”

CP Aderemi Adeoye, the Commissioner of Police, commended the efforts of the officers, urging them to remain vigilant and assuring the use of technology to track down the criminals responsible for the attack. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased officers and the Enugu State Police Command, emphasizing that their sacrifice would not be in vain.
