Tinubu-Led FG Told To Deploy OPC Men

The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has expressed frustration over the President Bola Tinubu led-Federal Government’s reluctance to utilize the extensive network of his group, the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC).

He urged the federal government to deploy OPC operatives in addressing the country’s security challenges.

Speaking at the OPC’s annual leadership retreat in Osogbo, Osun State, Adams emphasized that the Federal Government should empower state and local governments to develop their own security frameworks to better protect lives and property.

Adams, who also serves as the OPC’s National Coordinator, urged governments at all levels to take advantage of the OPC’s widespread presence in many communities across Nigeria. He noted that the OPC’s established structure could play a crucial role in enhancing security nationwide.

“Governments at various levels have refused to take advantage of our structure,” Adams stated. He argued that if the government were genuinely committed to reducing insecurity, it would know how to effectively engage organizations like the OPC. He stressed the importance of each tier of government—federal, state, and local—having its own security apparatus, particularly in light of the recent push for local government autonomy.
