Lagos Building Collapse: I Need To See My 17-year-old Son’s Body – Dead Or Alive – Father

A man identifying himself as the father of Emmanuel, one of the victims of the 21-story building fall in Ikoyi, Lagos, has expressed his sorrow over the tragic event.

The enraged father explained that his son, along with his coworkers, was at the construction site with the boss when the structure fell.

Only one person escaped, according to him, after roughly five individuals from Emmanuel’s office visited the spot.

He also revealed that Emmanuel’s supervisor is no longer alive.

The bereft father pleaded with the state authorities to step up rescue efforts so he could learn if his son was dead or alive.

Speaking to journalists at the site, he said: “I’ve been calling his boss, his colleagues in Abuja said they have been unable to get him. I came here and saw things myself. I have seen the picture of his boss, he’s dead.

“Five of them came here, only one person survived and that person came either to charge his phone or to rest because he took drugs, according to what they told me, and the person came out and saw the building going down.

“Ever since then, I have been trying to speak to my son and to also get to speak with his boss but his number was not available until I came here yesterday and stood here and I was shown the picture of the boss, he’s dead.

“It is painful, I am devastated, I have pleaded with the state governor yesterday when he came to address us. I want to see my son to know if he’s dead or alive, I am not looking for justice, I just want to see my son to know if he’s dead or alive. His name is Emmanuel, he’s just 17 years old, he finished secondary school.”

On Monday, a building on Gerrard Road in Ikoyi, Lagos, collapsed, trapping an undetermined number of people behind the wreckage.

On Thursday, SaharaReporters reported that the death toll at the site had increased to 38.

Nine people were rescued alive from the rubble of the collapsed building by emergency personnel.

The collapsed property, which included four-bedroom maisonettes, flats, duplexes, and penthouses, was 65 percent sold out, according to Highbrow Living Magazine.

The flat is reportedly rumored to be priced between $1.2 million to $5 million.

The structure was believed to be 80 percent finished, with a completion date of 2022.
