Top Lecturer At Nigerian Police Academy Justifies Killing Of Female Student, Deborah In Sokoto Over Alleged Blasphemy

Dr Ibrahim Salihu Muhammed, a chief lecturer at the Nigerian Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State, has backed the lynching of Deborah Samuel Yakubu, a Christian student at Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, by her classmates.

Justifying the killing, Muhammed who is the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences in the police training institution, on Facebook shared a post by one Muhammad Alkali which read, “Nothing provokes Muslim than blasphemy. Know this and know peace.”

Deborah was slain and burned by her coworkers for allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad, according to the civilian lecturer’s Facebook post (SAW).

The 200-level female student was accused of blasphemy on a WhatsApp conversation network set up by her classmates before she was lynched.

Following the arrest of those tied to Deborah’s lynching, a violent street protest ensued, with protestors demanding that security forces release them immediately.

On Saturday, Governor Aminu Tambuwal ordered a 24-hour curfew on the Sokoto metropolis. On Monday, he lifted the curfew to be followed from dusk until morning.
