Ogbomoso Central Mosque Shut Down Amid Tension Over Chief Iman

Oyo State, Muslim leaders in Ogbomoso, have ordered the closure of the Ogbomoso Central Mosque at Oka’gbo due to the controversy surrounding the selection of the Chief Imam, Sheikh Teliat Yinus Oluwasina Ayilara.

Some members of the community opposed Ayilara’s selection, citing his non-local origin. The decision to close the mosque was made on Thursday to prevent Ayilara from conducting the Jumat service, aiming to maintain law and order and avoid potential unrest.

Prominent leaders involved in this decision include the Aare Musulumi of Ogbomosoland, Alhaji Abdulganiy Atanda Owodunni; the Asoju Musulumi, Alhaji Minkaheel Yussuf; and the Balogun Musulumi, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Bello. These leaders have advised Muslims in the area to observe the Jumat service in mosques near their residences while awaiting the final resolution on the matter.
