Rivers Crisis: Fubara Deals Major Blow To Wike’s Camp, Removes His Strong Men

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has instructed all Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) across the state’s 23 local government areas to assume leadership of their councils effective today, Tuesday, June 18, 2024.

This directive follows the conclusion of the tenures of the 23 Local Government Areas (LGA) Chairmen on Monday, June 17, 2024. This also marked a turning point in the political clash between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike as those sacked were largely loyalists of the FCT Minister while the Governor replaced them with the people appointed by his government. This development has helped to solidify Fubara’s hold on the state even as he makes more effort to stamp his authority amid the power tussle.

In a broadcast this morning, Governor Fubara urged the HLGAs to take charge of their respective councils with renewed energy and readiness to serve, awaiting further instructions as they strive for continued progress together.

Governor Fubara commended the outgoing LGA Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Councilors for their dedicated service to their communities. He congratulated them on successfully completing their tenures and wished them success in their future endeavors.

Emphasizing that the directive aligns with the law and the constitution of Nigeria, Governor Fubara assured prompt filling of the administrative vacuum left by the outgoing LGA Chairmen.

He reassured the people of Rivers State of his administration’s unwavering commitment to their welfare. Governor Fubara pledged to uphold their interests by continuing to advance infrastructural development, quality healthcare, education, and comprehensive welfare services for all residents and workers.

Expressing gratitude for the ongoing support of the people, Governor Fubara affirmed his dedication to collaborative efforts aimed at building a brighter and prosperous future for everyone in Rivers State.
