Rivers Crisis: Amaechi Breaks Silence, Reveals What Is Working Against Wike As Fubara Gains Ground

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has weighed in on the ongoing political crisis in the state involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

During his recent visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Hon. Okorinama West, in Port Harcourt, Amaechi stated that he would not endorse either Governor Fubara or the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Wike, in the current political scenario.

However, the former Minister of Transportation disclosed what has has been working against Wike which is also noticeable in his clash with Fubara. Amaechi noted that Governor Fubara’s popularity stems from the widespread discontent with Minister Wike among the people of Rivers State adding that Rivers people are tired of Wike. He suggested that Fubara’s support is largely a result of his opposition to Wike, rather than his own merits.

Furthermore, Amaechi commented on the shifting political landscape in Rivers, observing that some of his former allies are now aligning with different factions for personal reasons. He also encouraged young supporters to take an active role in shaping the state’s governance.

“I can’t align myself with either Sim or Wike. I will not support Sim, and I will not support Wike,” Amaechi said. “But remember, their influence comes from your support. What Sim perceives as popularity today is due to his anti-Wike stance, not because he is the best leader. The state is simply tired of Wike.”
