BREAKING: EFCC Arrests Official Behind Leaked Obiano’s Video
The officer who leaked the footage of a former governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, in the anti-graft agency’s custody has been captured, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
On Monday, the commission’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, issued a statement confirming this.
According to the EFCC, a quiet investigation was ordered after the event, which discovered the errant officer who committed the conduct.
The statement read, “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been drawn to a trending video showing the former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, in the custody of the commission.
“The commission wishes to distance itself from the said video which is completely at variance with the established Standard Operating Procedure of the EFCC.
“A discreet investigation ordered upon discovery of the leak has revealed the errant officer behind the odious act and he is currently being subjected to appropriate disciplinary action.”
A short video showing former Anambra Governor Willie Obiano in the EFFC’s custody leaked online on Sunday, according to NEWS DIRECT.
Obiano was seen sipping water from a bottle in the footage, which lasted 12 seconds.
In the footage, he was also talking with an unnamed person.
Obiano is being questioned by the EFCC over the alleged misappropriation of N42 billion from the state.
In a letter to the Comptroller-General of Immigration dated November 15, 2021, the agency placed the former governor on its watch list and ordered the Nigeria Immigration Service to prevent him from leaving the nation.
Obiano was arrested by the EFCC on Thursday night, hours after handing over to Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the new governor of Anambra, according to NEWS DIRECT.
