Peter Obi Ignores Abure, Teams Up With Gov Otti To Convoke Crucial LP Meeting

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti have announced a stakeholders’ meeting for the party.

The Labour Party Extended Stakeholders Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4, at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Umuahia.

Dodoh Okafor, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Otti on Public Communication, stated that the meeting aims to build a “stronger and better Labour Party.”

The meeting will include key party figures such as Peter Obi, Governor Alex Otti, former vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed, and Julius Abure-led executives. It will also feature Senators, House of Representatives members, and other stakeholders.

The meeting circular lists attendees as follows:
– Three representatives from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) who are National Executive Council members of the party.
– Three representatives from the Trade Union Congress (TUC) who are also National Executive Council members of the Labour Party.
– The Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate.
– The Deputy Governor of Abia State.
– All serving and former Senators and House of Representatives members of the party.
– All serving members of State Houses of Assembly.
– Five members of the Abure-led National Working Committee, including the National Chairman, Deputy National Chairman, Secretary, Woman Leader, and Youth Leader.
– Gubernatorial candidates from Edo and Ondo states.
– Former gubernatorial candidates representing each of the six geopolitical zones:
– Mr. Ken Pela (Delta State – South South)
– Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (Lagos State – South West)
– Hon. Chijioke Edeoga (Enugu State – South East)
– Mr. Jonathan Asake (Kaduna State – North West)
– Mr. Patrick Dakum (Plateau State – North Central)
– Mr. Keftin Amuga (Gombe State – North East)

With this development, Otti seems to have an upper hand over the embattled LP National Chairman, Julius Abure as Obi seemed to have recognised the Abia Governor amid the leadership tussle he is having with Abure. It is not clear what next line of action Abure may take following this development.
