One Shot Dead As Massive Protest Erupts In Kenya

During protests against a contentious taxation bill in Kenya, a demonstrator was tragically shot and killed in Nairobi on Thursday evening, sparking nationwide unrest.

Thousands had gathered across the country to voice their opposition to the bill as parliament debated its passage. According to a family lawyer, the victim was shot in the leg by police, leading to fatal blood loss as he awaited medical attention, which was reportedly delayed.

In response, protest leaders have called for a solidarity gathering at the hospital morgue on Friday to support the victim’s family. Amnesty International reported over 200 injuries in Nairobi alone during the protests.

The proposed tax law has heightened fears among Kenyans of a soaring cost of living, potentially making it difficult to manage expenses. Entrepreneurs and business owners are also concerned about significant financial losses due to anticipated declines in purchasing power.
