NWAOBAKATA: Notorious Security Commander Caught With Human Skulls, 7 Others Nabbed Amid Rivers Crisis

The Rivers State Police Command has announced the arrest of Felix Nwaobakata, commander of a local vigilante group, along with seven other members of the outfit, following disturbing discoveries and criminal activities in Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area.

Nwaobakata, identified as the head of the ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Committee (OSPAC), was apprehended at his hideout where police found two human skulls and other human body parts. According to Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the State Police Command, Nwaobakata is a key suspect in the murder of two brothers from Idu Community on May 1, 2024, allegedly accused of kidnapping.

The police statement highlighted ongoing complaints about OSPAC’s operations, particularly in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, and recent clashes with law enforcement agencies. It detailed an incident where OSPAC attempted an attack on a police division in Omoku but was repelled by the police.

In response to escalating tensions, tactical units raided the OSPAC camp in Omoku, leading to the arrest of Cheta Benjamin, Joshua Ekwosa, Innocent Ahiakwu, and four others. Subsequently, Nwaobakata was apprehended at his hiding place on June 17, 2024, where incriminating evidence, including human remains, was discovered.

The police also linked Nwaobakata to the murders of Collins Ugorji and Newman Ugorji, with allegations that OSPAC confiscated their motorcycles and brought their bodies to the OSPAC headquarters in Omoku.

The Rivers State Police Command affirmed its commitment to curbing the excesses of vigilante groups in the state, emphasizing the need for lawful conduct and accountability within such organizations.
