NNPC, Marketers Are Not Buying Our Products, We Might Be Forced To Export Petrol Outside -Dangote

According to Punch, The Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced that it will export its petrol, commonly known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), if the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and other local dealers refuse to buy it.

Devakumar Edwin, the Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, shared this information during a live appearance on the Brekete Family show on Monday.

He confirmed that the refinery has begun producing petrol, but local oil traders have opted to import diesel and aviation fuel instead, limiting local sales of Dangote’s fuel.

“We have been exporting aviation fuel and producing kerosene and diesel, but just yesterday, we started producing PMS. That was the final step; the only products left are petrochemicals,” he said.

When asked if the petrol would be sold within Nigeria, Edwin explained there has been a blockade preventing local traders from lifting their products.

“Traders have tried to block sales, so we’ve been exporting our products. We are ready to supply petrol to the country, but if NNPC or local traders do not buy it, we will export the PMS, like we are already doing with aviation fuel and diesel,” he stated.

Edwin expressed his surprise at the unexpected challenges the refinery has faced since starting operations. He noted that the original goal was to add value to Nigeria’s raw materials.

“It’s disappointing that after more than 30 years, Nigeria is still exporting crude oil and importing refined products,” he lamented.
