Bandits Demand N50million Ransom For Abducted Students Of Catholic Seminary In Kaduna

Three students from St. Albert the Great Institute of Philosophy, a Catholic-run major seminary in Fayit, Kagoma Chiefdom, Jama’a Local Government Area, Kaduna State, have been abducted and a ransom of N50 million has been demanded.

J.F. Dabo, an assistant to the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, confirmed this (CAN).

According to him, the bandits made the demand to the father of one of the three victims.

Three students were kidnapped, according to Dabo, who is also the National President of the Catholic Youth In Politics Forum.

He claimed that the eight attackers, who he described as Fulani militiamen, kidnapped five pupils at first.

However, on their way out of the school, they dropped two of the captives.

One of them was bleeding from a wound on his head.

The attack happened at 7 p.m., following mass at the chapel, according to Dabo.

“They met five stragglers at the chapel, when hundreds of others had departed to their hostels or the dining hall.

“They probably targeted the mass at the chapel. But they came after it ended. The situation could have been worse.”

He also said one of the three captives is asthmatic.

The police command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, corroborating the claims, said three students had been abducted.

“Three seminarians were kidnapped by suspected kidnappers on Monday evening,’’ he said.

He, however, said the Commissioner of Police in the state had directed the deployment of more police personnel to cordon the nearby bushes with a view to rescuing the victims.

“All efforts are on top gear for their rescue,’’ Jalige said.

A source who stays close to the school had told SaharaReporters that the operation lasted for over an hour before local hunters and vigilante intervened and “chased the terrorists away.”

It was also learnt that some students were abducted by the terrorists while others were injured.
