Nigerian Govt Begins Cash Transfer To 200,000 Beneficiaries
The money will go to urban poor elderly citizens who don’t have a regular source of income and have been affected by COVID-19.
Iorwa Apera, the Coordinator of the National Social Safety Net Programme, made the announcement in Abuja on Monday.
The selected citizens were validated by their respective communities, according to Apera, a Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management official.
He noted that 4 percent of 35 million poor and vulnerable persons in the national register in 36 states and the FCT were elderly persons.
Two million individuals, categorised as senior citizens, were aggregated by location, education, age, status, disability and sex.
