Nationwide Protest: Outrage As Policemen Clamp Down On Physically Challenged Man (VIDEO)

A video circulating online shows Nigeria Police Force (NPF) officers forcefully dragging a physically challenged man during a protest in Bauchi State.

The man, identified as Hamza Waziri, is the founder of the Initiative for the Liberalization of Physically Challenged People in Nigeria.

The incident occurred when Waziri took his protest to the Bauchi State government house, where two police officers were seen dragging him. The exact cause of the altercation between Waziri and the police is currently unclear.

This incident comes shortly after the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, asserted that the NPF acted professionally during the nationwide protests that began on August 1, 2024. Despite reports of gunshots and teargas used against protesters, Egbetokun stated in a press conference that police officers were deployed with instructions to avoid unnecessary harassment or intimidation.

He remarked, “Despite our suspicions, we showed good faith through professional conduct by providing security at strategic locations to ensure peaceful protests, as promised by the organizers. Our officers were briefed to respect court orders and ensure no one’s rights were infringed upon.”

Egbetokun also noted that, even when protesters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) defied a court order to protest only at the National Stadium, the police still provided security without violating their fundamental rights.
