Gunmen Kill Vigilante Member, Abduct Two Others In Imo

Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a vigilante group member in Imo State’s Nwangele Local Government Area on Wednesday.

According to a community source who spoke to DAILY POST on the condition of anonymity, the vigilante member, Mr. Fidelis Nnadi, was killed by fleeing gunmen along the Okwelle-Umuezealaibe road.

Nnadi was claimed to have left his village of Ogwuaga to go shopping in Okwelle, Onuimo Local Government Area, and was stopped by a gang of gunmen who were also on the road.

The gunmen had already kidnapped a mother and child elsewhere and were going through the community, but Nnadi was mistakenly identified as a security operative, according to DAILY POST.

The kidnappers attacked him, fired rounds at his chest at close range, shot him dead, and then zoomed away, according to a source who requested anonymity.

The dead operator had told the vigilante security Commander about his trip to Okwelle to purchase certain stuff before he went, according to the source, only for them to learn of his murder.

Residents of his Ogwuaga Abba community in Nwangele local government have already been thrown into mourning over his death, despite the community’s apprehension.

CSP Michael Abattam, a police spokesperson for Imo State, acknowledged the incident and promised to offer more information as soon as possible.
