JUST IN: Sunday Igboho Suspends Lagos Yoruba Nation Rally Meant To Hold On Saturday

Sunday Adeyemo alias Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba rights activist, has called off the Yoruba Nation march slated for Saturday in Lagos.

Yoruba Nation agitators organized rallies in several sections of the South-West, with the Lagos rally set for Saturday.

The rally in Lagos, however, has been suspended, according to Igboho, who talked to BBC News Pidgin.

He said this just hours after gunmen stormed his home in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, killing two people and kidnapping his wife.

His remarks follow a statement by Ilana Omo Oodua, the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination organisations, stating that the Yoruba Nation protest scheduled for Lagos will take place on Saturday as planned.

Emeritus Professor Banji Akintoye, the group’s leader, signed the statement, which was made available to journalists by his Communications Manager, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye.

“We want to confirm again that the Pro-Yoruba Nation rally scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 3rd, in Lagos will proceed as scheduled” the statement read in part.
