Lalong Reveals Real Reason He Dumped Tinubu’s Cabinet, Took Another Post

Former Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, has disclosed the reasons behind his transition from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet to the Senate, where he recently took the oath as the Senator for Plateau South.

Lalong affirmed, “This was my first choice, to be candid,” highlighting that serving as the governor of Plateau State until May 2023 had been his primary aspiration.

He clarified that the interim role as a minister was taken on Tinubu’s invitation due to a legal case he was pursuing at the courts. Lalong expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve during the legal battle.

Upon the Court of Appeal’s ruling in Lalong’s favor, overturning the initial declaration of the PDP candidate, Napoleon Bali, as the winner, Lalong embraced the opportunity to pursue his preferred path, leading to his current position in the Senate.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated the newly sworn-in Senator, commending Lalong’s dedication and service, including his prior role as the director-general of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign.

APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, echoed the sentiment, describing the day as a “moment of happiness” for both Lalong and the entire party.

Ganduje emphasized the expectations for good legislation from Lalong, highlighting the responsibility placed upon his shoulders. With the APC holding the majority in the Senate, Ganduje expressed confidence in their ability to “work for the prosperity of all Nigerians.”
