JUST IN: Wike Vows To Ban Buses, Taxis In Abuja As Pressure Mounts

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has vowed to take action amid mounting pressure over rising insecurity in the territory.

In this regard, Wike announced the impending ban of unpainted taxis and buses from operating on roads in the nation’s capital. He disclosed this during a media chat in Abuja, stating that the measure is aimed at addressing the issue of ‘one chance’ incidents in the city. He emphasized the need for stricter measures to eradicate this trend in the FCT.

“We are not going to allow vehicles that are not painted with FCT colour and registered by the FCTA to ply commercial routes in the territory. When this is done, you as the passenger will not take the risk of going to enter any vehicle that you don’t even know,” said Wike.

He also highlighted the necessity for Uber operators to register to operate in Abuja, ensuring government awareness of their identities, certification, and profiling by security agencies.

“This is a city; if you don’t have rules, there will be problems,” Wike added.

Expressing concern over the lack of an official terminal in the capital territory, he outlined plans to build three terminals in the 2024 fiscal year to enhance safety and reduce crime.
