JUST IN: Tension As Soludo’s Govt Seals Peter Obi, APGA’s Campaign Offices

Officials of the Anambra State government sealed the state office of the Edozie Njoku-led All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on Tuesday.

The office, located in the upscale Udoka Housing Estate in Awka, was shut down alongside a building that previously served as the campaign office for Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).

The area descended into chaos as government officials, backed by soldiers and police, arrived to enforce the closure of the offices.

Tony Uche Ezekwelu, the South East national vice chairman of APGA, suggested that the state government may have been unsettled by APGA’s growing popularity since Edozie Njoku assumed the role of national chairman.

“We came to the office this morning to oversee the sale of expression of interest forms for the upcoming local government elections on September 28,” Ezekwelu explained. “As I arrived, I saw our party officials clashing with state government personnel, who were accompanied by police and army officers. They claimed to have orders from above to seal our office.”

The reason given for the closure was that the area was designated as residential, not commercial. Ezekwelu expressed concern over the lack of prior notice and pointed out that other political and commercial offices, including one associated with Nonye Soludo, have operated in the area without issue.

“This office has previously housed campaign teams for Peter Obi, the Atiku/Obi Presidential Campaign, the Labour Party, and Godwin Ezeemo,” he added. “What happened here is unfortunate, and it’s clear that this is political. If there was a violation, we should have been notified instead of being treated like criminals.”

During a broadcast marking the creation of Anambra State, Governor Chukwuma Soludo addressed the situation, assuring that the internal issues within APGA would soon be resolved.
