JUST IN: Kaduna Lawmaker Shot Dead By Bandits

Bandits assassinated Rilwan Aminu Gadagau, a member of the Kaduna House of Assembly.

Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna senator, announced Mr Gadagau’s death on Twitter.

“A member of Kaduna state House of Assembly Hon Lirwan Aminu Gadagau from Giwa LG is reportedly shot and killed by Bandits on his way to Kaduna. A tragedy, a day. Inna lillahi wainna Illayhir rajiun,” Mr Sani tweeted.

Mr Gadagau, a resident of Giwa, was slain on his way to Kaduna on Tuesday when armed bandits ambushed motorists on the Zaria-Kaduna Expressway.

The attack on the Kaduna-Zaria highway occurred just days after robbers opened fire on motorists on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway, killing two passengers on a J5 bus.

The Guardian reported on Monday night that around 30 people were kidnapped along the Kaduna-Zaria highway.

Mohammad Jalige, the spokesman for the Kaduna police command, could not be reached immediately to confirm the killing.

Last month, Kaduna lawmakers expressed alarm about the rising number of bandit attacks, particularly along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway, which they described as a threat to national security.
