JUST IN: Gov Fubara To Revive Security Outfit In Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has indicated plans to revive the State’s Neighbourhood Watch, a community-based security outfit established by the previous administration.

Governor Fubara discussed the planned revival during a closed-door meeting with the leaders of the Neighbourhood Watch at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday night.

Following the meeting, Wogbo Lawrence, the Head of Command for Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch, expressed satisfaction with the governor’s assurances after six years of neglect. He noted that despite the lack of financial support, the security outfit had independently managed to maintain approximately 1,150 personnel deployed across the state’s 23 local government areas.

Although the Neighbourhood Watch was officially established by law in March 2018, its full operations were hampered under the last administration, as the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state accused the security agency of being a tool for intimidating its members during the 2019 elections.
