JUST IN: Fresh Update On New Minimum Wage Emerges

A fresh update has emerged concerning the new minimum wage for workers in Nigeria following deliberations by members of the committee.

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State provided insights into the progress of the minimum wage tripartite committee meeting held today. The committee, which includes representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), convened to discuss and potentially finalize a new national minimum wage.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Uzodimma, who also serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), expressed optimism about the near-consensus reached by the Tripartite Committee on the Minimum Wage.

“We had a very productive discussion. It’s a technical subcommittee, and at our level, we are close to reaching a consensus. Once we move to the plenary session, we expect to finalize our agreement, at which point the media can report on it. We are in a much better position now than before,” Uzodimma stated after the meeting on Friday, which reportedly lasted over 12 hours.

He added that the committee had concluded its unit meetings and was moving to the plenary session to harmonize their decisions and, hopefully, determine a new minimum wage figure.
