JUST IN: Atiku Vows To Contest For President In 2027, Reveals How To Win
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in 2023, has affirmed his commitment to continue contesting elections as long as his health permits.
Speaking in an interview with the Hausa service of the Voice of America in Abuja, Atiku declared, “Of course, I will keep contesting again and again as long as I am alive and healthy.”
Drawing inspiration from history, Atiku referenced former US President Abraham Lincoln’s persistence, noting, “Even the former US President Abraham Lincoln contested seven times before finally winning.”
Recognizing the challenges ahead, Atiku emphasized that winning the election would require more than individual effort. He stressed the need for strong support and collaboration with other parties, acknowledging that a united front is crucial given the current state of the PDP.
Looking ahead to the next presidential election in 2027, where he would be 81 years old, Atiku reflected on his previous attempts, having been on the ballot as a presidential candidate three times in 2007, 2019, and 2023.
Regarding the internal strife within the PDP, Atiku emphasized the importance of unity and forming alliances with other political groups to secure victory in 2027. Amid speculation of coalition-building, Atiku recently met with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate from the Labour Party (LP). Atiku reassured, “This is to anybody that thinks there is going to be a misunderstanding between me and Obi, let me assure you that not even a small issue is going to happen between us.” He further pledged support for the chosen candidate in the upcoming elections.
