Jubilations: Travellers To Pay Less As Dangote Crashes Price Of Jet A1
A potential decrease in airfares awaits travellers in Nigeria which has left some of them in happy mood.
This is as a result of a drop in the price of Jet A1, the fuel utilized by airlines. On Tuesday, Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced a further reduction in diesel and aviation fuel prices, setting the new rates at N940 and N980 per litre, respectively.
This development has ignited optimism among airline representatives, travel agency leaders, and frequent air travellers, all eyeing potential savings on air travel.
Kingsley Nwokoma, President of the Association of Foreign Airlines and Representative in Nigeria, underscored the pivotal role of aviation fuel in shaping ticket prices. “Normally, airfares would drop because aviation fuel is a big component… It’s a very significant factor,” he emphasized.
Nwokoma also hinted at a potential correlation between the price reduction and the presence of Dangote refinery, urging a comprehensive assessment of its impact on ticket costs.
Echoing similar sentiments, United Nigeria Airlines spokesperson Achilleus Uchegbu expressed hope for airfare reductions in line with the decreased aviation fuel prices. “Although I do not know how soon the price drop will happen, we are hopeful,” he remarked.

Susan Akporiaye, President of The National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies, highlighted the positive outcomes of lower airfares. “The expectation is for the fares to drop, and it will result in more people travelling, which gives my members more tickets to issue, increasing income,” she affirmed.
All other stakeholders and air travellers that reacted to the development expressed joy on the hope that air fares will drop soon following the reduction in the price of aviation fuel by Dangote whose mega refinery just resumed operations in the country.
