BREAKING: Sunday Igboho Freed

Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, has been released from house arrest in Benin Republic, as confirmed by Prof. Banji Akintoye, the leader of the Yoruba Nation group. Igboho, who had been arrested in July 2021 while attempting to board a flight to Germany, had survived an attack in his Ibadan home by security agents earlier that month. Following his arrest, the Department of State Services (DSS) declared him wanted.

Despite being under house arrest, Igboho managed to leave the country discreetly, intending to reunite with his family in Germany. In an interview, he stated his freedom to return to Nigeria and travel worldwide, emphasizing that he had met all legal bail conditions. Igboho expressed his readiness to come back to Nigeria, his homeland.

Igboho and his wife were apprehended on July 20, 2021, at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou while attempting to travel to Germany. After legal battles, he was granted bail, effectively confining him to Cotonou, Benin. In a Facebook video, Igboho expressed gratitude to his supporters, mentioning the backing he received from Yoruba monarchs, activists like Prof. Banji Akintoye, and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo during his time in Cotonou.
