Serena Williams Out Of Wimbledon After Retiring Injured In First Round

Serena Williams’ hopes of being the first woman to win an eighth Wimbledon singles title and tie Margaret Court’s Grand Slam record of 24 were dashed when she stumbled and had to have her left ankle inspected before retiring.

Before leaving the court for a medical checkup, the 39-year-old was plainly limping and shouted for her trainer.

When Williams returned, she fought back tears while serving at the baseline, unable to continue due to the agony.
