I Fought Corruption Better Than Buhari — Ibrahim Babangida

Ibrahim Babangida, a former Head of State, has attacked President Muhammadu Buhari’s handling of corruption.

IBB, as Babangida was nicknamed, boasted that he tackled corruption better than the current administration.

On Friday, the retired General spoke with ARISE TV.

IBB said that those who worked for him were saints in comparison to others in positions of authority.

He remembers firing a former military governor for embezzling N313,000.

Babangida raged that individuals who stole billions were free to roam the streets.

“From what I read, from analysis, I think we are saints when compared to what is happening under a democratic dispensation, he said.

“Today, those who have stolen billions and are in court are now parading themselves on the streets. Who else is better in fighting corruption?”

Babangida, who overturned the 1993 presidential election, has been accused of corruption on multiple occasions.

However, no formal allegations have been brought against him by democratic governments or people or groups in the past.

Despite prior comments against IBB, even former President Olusegun Obasanjo turned a blind eye while in office.

Obasanjo labeled Babangida as Nigeria’s worst challenge in an interview with TELL magazine in April 1993.

He said of IBB’s regime: “…Deficit budgeting, deficit financing, deficit trading but more importantly, we have an administration that is deficit in credibility. It is deficit in honesty, deficit in honour and deficit in truth.”
