Gov Fubara Gives Fresh Directive To New LGA Caretaker Chairmen Amid Confrontation With Wike’s Foot Soldiers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has given new directive to his newly inaugurated caretaker chairmen in the state amid confrontations with men loyal to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Fubara instructed them that can operate from any location to maintain peace in the state and avoid conflicts at council secretariats. This announcement was made shortly after the swearing-in ceremony of the 23 chairpersons at the government house in Port Harcourt yesterday.

Governor Fubara advised the local chairpersons to avoid confrontations with the opposing camp and security personnel who have taken control of the council secretariats, stating, “Let me also advise that as you resume in your respective local governments, please I do not want any confrontation, it is not in my nature. It is not my style.”

He further explained, “Whatever happened yesterday (Tuesday) I know and the world knows that it is not from you people. Some persons caused it. So let us not allow them to continue to make our state look bad in the comity of states. So if you go back, if there is any situation I want you to be law abiding. I don’t want any confrontation. You can operate from anywhere.”

The Governor emphasized that the caretaker chairmen are now in charge of the Local Government Areas. He also mentioned that the tenure of the caretaker committee would be brief as the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) would soon commence the process for local government elections.
