Ghanian President’s Convoy Involved In Ghastly Crash, Driver Confirmed Dead
On Sunday, May 19, 2024, a fatal accident occurred on the Bunso-Akyem Asafo section of the Accra-Kumasi highway involving several vehicles from President Akufo-Addo’s convoy.
The convoy was returning from Kumasi after a series of events attended by the President.
In this unfortunate incident, one of the drivers, Mr. Kwesi Atta, died. Several close security officers and police officers from the President’s security also suffered injuries of varying degrees.
The injured officers received initial treatment at Suhum Government Hospital and are currently being evacuated to the University of Ghana Medical Center for further treatment and observation.
As a result of the accident, there was significant damage to several vehicles in the convoy. However, President Akufo-Addo did not sustain any injuries while traveling to Accra in a military plane.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured officers,” said Eugene Arhin, director of communications at the Office of the President.
He added that further details will be provided as the situation is further assessed.
Reports indicate that a KIA Rhino truck passed by in the convoy, leading to an accident.
Three soldiers who got injured were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital Emergency Center for medical treatment in an ambulance, but the degree of injuries required transfer for further treatment.
A few hours after the accident, a chopper was spotted at the Suhum Senior High Technical School Park, conveying the wounded victims from an ambulance to Accra.
A statement released by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, said several vehicles in the convoy were damaged entirely.
