Attahiru: How Family, Army Clashed At Funeral Ceremony

On Saturday, the family of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, had a dispute with the Nigerian Army over his burial.

They insisted that Attahiru be buried without a coffin, as per Islamic tradition.

Senior Army officers, on the other hand, maintained that the late COAS will be buried in accordance with military custom.

The disagreement caused Attahiru’s burial to be postponed for a brief time.

The superior arguments eventually persuaded the family, and the grave was enlarged to fit the casket.

Attahiru and ten other military officers were killed in a plane crash at Kaduna International Airport on Friday.

Brigadier Generals Ahmed Kuliya, O Olayinka, and MI Abdulkadir; Majors N Hamza, LA Hayat; Sergeants O Adesina, and Umar; and Aircraftman OM Oyedepo, Flt Lt TO Asaniyi, and Flt Lt AA Olufade were among those killed.
