‘For Describing Assaulted Security Guard As ‘Biafran Boy’, CCT Chairman Risks 5-Year Jail Term’ – Falana
Danladi Umar, the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), faces a five-year prison sentence, according to Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer. Umar used the term “Biafran boys” to describe people with whom he had an altercation.
Umar was captured on camera hitting a security guard at Banex Plaza in Wuse 2, Abuja, on Monday.
CCT spokesperson Ibraheem Al-Hassan said in a statement that the security guard was rude and stopped Umar from using a vacant parking space.
According to Al-Hassan, the guard threatened Umar, and some “Biafran people” harassed him as well.
Umar, according to the CCT spokesperson, was the one who asked him to use the phrase “Biafran boys” in the quote.
Falana said in a statement on Saturday that using the term is xenophobic and therefore violates the cybercrime rule.
