Fears mount in Edo as APC thugs allegedly plot to set INEC office ablaze to destroy election evidence

Concerns are being raised about the potential for sabotage at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices, with sources alleging that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are plotting to set fire to INEC facilities in a bid to destroy critical evidence related to ongoing electoral disputes.

The allegations, which surfaced late last night, have sent shockwaves across political circles, prompting urgent calls for heightened security measures around INEC offices nationwide.

A highly placed source warned that APC operatives are allegedly planning a covert operation to set the INEC office on fire under the cover of darkness.

“We have credible information that their new strategy is to destroy INEC offices at night to eliminate any evidence that could expose electoral malpractices,” the source revealed.

The concerns come on the heels of an ongoing legal tussle over the contentious use of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines in the recently concluded elections in Edo State.

A spokesperson for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) expressed grave concerns over the potential damage to Nigeria’s democratic process.

“The integrity of our elections is non-negotiable. We are calling on security agencies to increase their presence at INEC offices. APC must not be allowed to sabotage democracy by destroying crucial evidence.”

Meanwhile, there are growing fears that arson attacks could target not just Edo State but other parts of the country where electoral disputes are ongoing.

INEC offices across several states are currently housing critical electoral materials and BVAS machines that could play pivotal roles in court cases challenging the legitimacy of some election outcomes.

Across social media, Nigerians have expressed outrage over the alleged plot, with the hashtag #ProtectINECNow trending as citizens call for swift action to prevent any attempts at electoral sabotage.

Many are voicing concerns that any destruction of evidence could severely undermine forthcoming court proceedings and cast further doubts on the legitimacy of the electoral process.

One Twitter user commented, “If INEC offices are burned, democracy will be the ultimate victim. We cannot allow this to happen. Protect INEC, protect our future!”

Another user warned, “This is not just about elections anymore. It’s about the very survival of our democracy. We demand immediate action!”

Also, the allegations have ramped up pressure on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, with citizens demanding stronger assurances that INEC offices will remain secure.
