Edo election: Pro-democracy group urges Nigeria Police Force to be impartial, shun bias

A pro-democracy group in Edo state, Edolites For Peace and Progress, led by Madam Adesua Odigie, has issued a strong statement regarding recent police actions in Edo State.

The group lamented that recent media reports alleging that the IGP Crack Team has begun a clampdown on supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the gubernatorial election is unacceptable.

The statement signed by the group’s coordinator, Madam Adesua Odigie,
stated that the impartiality of the police in the upcoming election is sacrosanct.

The statement read: “We call upon the IGP to ensure that the police act impartially and do not interfere in the political landscape of Edo State.

“The role of the police is to maintain law and order without bias, and it is crucial that they uphold this principle.”

The group also reassured Edo State residents, urging them not to be intimidated or deterred by the recent developments.

“We encourage all residents to exercise their democratic rights by coming out on election day to vote for their chosen candidates.

“It is vital for the integrity of our electoral process that every citizen participates and defends their vote,” the group said.

The Edolites For Peace and Progress also reiterated the importance of a transparent and fair election, calling on all stakeholders to contribute to a peaceful electoral environment.

“We remain committed to advocating for democratic rights and ensuring that the election reflects the will of the people.

“As the election approaches, we urge all stakeholders to stick to the rules and not fan the embers of discord in our dear state,” the statement concluded.
