Edo election: Oshiomhole’s children caution ex-governor over constant attacks on their late mum’s cousin, Asue Ighodalo

The family has cautioned Oshiomhole, urging him to reconsider his stance and avoid further controversy.

Ighodalo, a prominent figure in Edo politics and a close associate of the Oshiomhole family is a first cousin of Oshiomhole’s late wife.

He has been a trusted friend and advisor to the former governor, notably providing support during the difficult period following the death of Oshiomhole’s wife.

The friction between Oshiomhole and Ighodalo began when Ighodalo decided to join the PDP, a move that Oshiomhole interpreted as an alignment with his political rival, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Despite Oshiomhole’s efforts to bring Ighodalo into the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ighodalo’s allegiance to the PDP became evident, leading to strained relations between the two long-time acquaintances.

A source close to both families who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: ”Oshiomhole’s family is particularly troubled by his recent disparaging remarks about Ighodalo, fearing that these attacks could lead to a significant fallout within their extended family.

”They worry that Oshiomhole’s conduct could foster enmity among relatives who remain close to Ighodalo, potentially damaging family relationships that have been longstanding and important.

”Given these concerns, Oshiomhole’s children have contacted him to voice their dismay and urge him to tone down his rhetoric.

”According to them, Ighodalo’s decision to join the PDP should not overshadow the historical ties and personal connections that have long existed between their family and Ighodalo.”

The former governor’s public criticisms of Ighodalo have been a source of ongoing media attention.

His family is now calling for a shift in focus from public disputes to maintaining family harmony and respecting personal relationships.
