A notable incident occurred during the wake-keeping ceremony of the late Access Bank founder, Herbert Wigwe, at the Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG) Lion of Judah parish in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Friday.
The Master of Ceremonies (MC) sparked a mild drama when he failed to acknowledge the presence of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), despite recognizing other special guests.
The remains of Wigwe, alongside his wife and son, had arrived in Nigeria on Friday for their final burial rites in Rivers State. However, during the wake-keep, tension arose among attendees when Obi was not initially acknowledged by the MC. After being alerted to the oversight, the MC later apologized, and Obi was duly recognized at the event.
In a separate development, Tochi Wigwe, the first daughter of the late Herbert Wigwe, delivered an emotional tribute to her father during the Night of Tributes at the Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Wednesday night. Tochi, accompanied by her friends on stage, fondly remembered her father’s determination and drive, emphasizing how he consistently surpassed expectations.
