Drama As Tinubu Removes Wike’s Major Ally From Top Post

President Bola Tinubu has removed Chukwuemeka Woke as Managing Director (MD) of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA),

This development was confirmed by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale in a statement on Wednesday.

Woke, previously Chief of Staff to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during Nyesom Wike’s tenure as Governor of Rivers State, faced public criticism upon his appointment on May 9, 2024, due to concerns over familiarity and regional representation.

Dr. Adedeji Ashiru has been appointed as Woke’s successor, with Woke being reassigned to the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer.

Ngelale highlighted Woke’s engineering background and political experience, noting his service in various capacities including as Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State and Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt.

Dr. Ashiru, possessing a Doctorate degree in Engineering from the Common Wealth University, UK, and extensive professional experience, is expected to bring his expertise to bear in leading OORBDA.

President Tinubu emphasizes the importance of competence and transparency in the operations of these critical agencies, urging the new Chief Executive Officers to work towards sustainable gains and turnaround.
