Drama As Obasanjo Reveals Class Of Nigerian Political Office Holders Who Should Be Jailed

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed strong criticism of the leadership in Nigeria, stating that many individuals currently holding public office lack the necessary character to lead the nation.

Instead, he believes some should be behind bars or even face the gallows.

Obasanjo made these remarks at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during a meeting with six members of the House of Representatives. The legislators, led by Ugochinyere Ikenga from Imo State, are co-sponsoring bills advocating for a single six-year presidential term, rotational presidency between the North and South, and the rotation of governorship among the three senatorial districts in each of Nigeria’s 36 states.

Obasanjo emphasized that character is a crucial quality for leadership, one that he finds lacking in many current public office holders. He stressed the need for leadership with integrity, arguing that Nigeria’s problems stem from the character of its leaders, not just the system or form of government. Obasanjo asserted that regardless of changes to the political system, meaningful progress will remain elusive without leaders of strong character.

He urged a re-evaluation of how leaders are selected, highlighting the importance of their track record and role as positive role models. Obasanjo concluded by stressing that the character of leaders is the foundation for achieving the desired change in Nigeria.
