JUST IN: We Are Lobbying Tinubu’s Govt To Release Nnamdi Kanu- Reps Deputy Speaker Reveals
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has disclosed ongoing efforts to secure the release of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
He emphasized the pursuit of political solutions alongside ongoing court processes.
During a special edition of “The Ben Kalu’s Mandate” radio program on FLO FM, Umuahia, Abia State, Kalu addressed inquiries regarding the involvement of the Peace In South East Project (PISE-P) in advocating for Kanu’s release.
Kalu stated, “The Peace in South East Project (PISE-P) has reconciliation in the mix of what we are trying to achieve. We recognize the importance of our brother, Nnamdi Kanu, in the peace agenda we are pushing. That’s the truth.” He stressed his personal commitment to Kanu’s release, stating, “I will never be happy having him incarcerated when we can have him out and increase our pursuit towards peace.”
Furthermore, Kalu highlighted his lobbying efforts within the federal government, including discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He emphasized the need for Igbo elders to engage with the President, addressing Kanu’s situation and other regional concerns.
Kalu appreciated Kanu’s recent statement condemning violence, stating, “I am happy he sounded that warning.” He urged unity and peaceful engagement, emphasizing support for the government while advocating for Kanu’s release.
Kalu further reiterated the importance of maintaining peace in the South East, expressing gratitude to the region’s residents and organizations like Ohaneze Ndi Igbo for their support. He emphasized the need to balance advocacy for Kanu’s release with loyalty to the government and commitment to regional peace.
