Nigerian Broadcasting Commission Summons Channels TV Presenters Over Anti-Buhari Interviews

The presenters of Sun Rise Daily, a breakfast show on Channels Television, have been summoned by the National Broadcasting Commission over certain recent interviews that were deemed to be critical of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Human rights campaigner and former Chairman of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, announced this on his Twitter account.

He wrote on Twitter, ”There is confirmation that @nbcgovng has summoned the presenters of @sunrisedailynow for this morning.”

The NBC’s summons could be linked to comments made by several of the guests who appeared on the show on Wednesday.

Among them were Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and Commodore Kunle Olawunmi, a retired Nigerian Navy officer (retd.).

During interrogation by military authorities, Boko Haram terrorists revealed names of current governors, senators, and Aso Rock officials as sponsors, according to Olawunmi.

He, on the other hand, said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration lacked the political will to pursue the high-profile politicians for reasons best known to it.

During the leadership of the then Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin, Olawunmi, a professor of Global Security Studies, said he was a member of the Intelligence Brief at Defence Headquarters.

He said that the government had been unable to pursue the sponsors because it was biased.

He went on to say that the Department of State had a wealth of information about terrorists, but that they couldn’t do anything without the Commander-in-body Chief’s language.
