Buhari Gives Buratai New Ambassadorial Appointment

On Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari dispatched Lt.Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (rtd), the former Chief of Army Staff, to the Benin Republic as an ambassador.

In addition, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (rtd), Nigeria’s immediate Chief of Defence Staff, has been assigned as an Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Cameroon.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, while presenting letter of credence to the newly appointed ex-service chiefs.

This was contained in a statement by Mr Kimiebi Ebienfa, information officer of the ministry of foreign affairs.

The statement reads, “The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Geoffrey Onyeama today 22 June 2021, presented Letters of Credence to the Ambassador-Designate of Nigeria to the Republic of Cameroon, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin (Retired) and the Ambassador-Designate of Nigeria to the Republic of Benin, Lt.Gen. Recall that President Buhari, upon the retirement of the service chiefs, appointed them as non-career ambassadors.
