The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Adewale Adeniyi, has announced the commencement of the sale of seized food items to alleviate hunger among vulnerable Nigerians nationwide.
Adeniyi made this declaration on Tuesday during a sectoral debate session in the House of Representatives, which featured the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari.
In his statement, Adeniyi highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s directive to sell locally produced food items seized at Nigerian land borders directly to those in need. This initiative aims to mitigate the challenges of hunger and food scarcity across the nation.
“Mr. President has instructed us to sell locally produced food items seized at the borders directly to needy Nigerians. This is one of the strategies to tackle the hunger and food shortage we are encountering. We have already initiated this process in Lagos,” Adeniyi affirmed.
He further disclosed that imported food items seized by the Nigeria Customs Service would be reintroduced into local markets for resale to Nigerian consumers, following the President’s directive.
