BREAKING: Residents Flee As Boko Haram Attack Yobe Community Few Days After Geidam Invasion

Boko Haram militants from the Islamic State-backed Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jam’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihd, attacked Kanamma, the headquarters of Yobe state’s Yunusari Local Government Area.

According to a military source who spoke with SaharaReporters on Thursday, the town is currently under terrorist attack.

According to him, the rebels stormed the town around 6 p.m., firing sporadically as people fled for their lives.

In the Niger Republic, Kanamma is about 15 kilometers from Maine Soroa.

Insurgents targeted Geidam, the headquarters of the state’s Geidam Local Government Area and the hometown of the acting Inspector-General of Police, Baba Alkali, just a few days ago.

On Sunday, the group attacked the 156 Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Mainok, Borno state, killing over 30 soldiers.

In northeastern Nigeria, Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province, have killed thousands and displaced millions.

The Nigerian military has consistently asserted that the insurgency has been largely defeated, thus downplaying any casualties.

Insurgents have been targeting soldiers for the past few months.
