BREAKING: Protest Rocks Beninese Consulate General’s Office In Lagos As Igboho’s Supporters Demand His Release

Some followers of Yoruba separatist leader, Sunday Adeyemo, alias Sunday Igboho have stormed the office of the Consulate General of Benin Republic on Victoria Island, Lagos, to protest against his incarceration.

The protesters also requested that Igboho be released from detention in the Benin Republic.

They stormed the office of the Consulate General with posters declaring their demands and called on Yoruba leaders and other Nigerians to ensure Igboho’s release.

They urged that Igboho must not die in jail, describing him as innocent.

Igboho and his wife, Ropo were arrested in Benin Republic in July while trying to fly to Germany after a deadly raid on his house in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

After raiding Igboho’s home on July 1 and killing two people and arresting others, the Department of State Services (DSS) declared him wanted.

They had accused Igboho of hoarding guns to fight the Nigerian state in his movement for a separate Yoruba Nation.

Igboho has refuted the charges.

However, he has since been held in Benin Republic as the Nigerian government pushes the authorities of the adjoining West African country to have Igboho repatriated.
