BREAKING: Insurgents Commander Killed — Police Sources Claim
In a joint operation, members of the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the DSS stormed the operational headquarters of the Insurgents (IPOB Militias) in Awomama Village, Oru East LGA, Imo State, in the early hours of today, April 24, 2021.
The assault on the Imo State Police Headquarters and the Nigerian Correctional Service Headquarters on April 5, 2021 was carried out by insurgents. In the south east and south south of the country, they have also carried out a series of calculated, aggressive attacks on security forces and formations.
As the security forces approached the insurgents’ headquarters, they were met with rapid fire from the insurgents. The joint security forces fought back valiantly in a brave and clinical response.
The Forces finally neutralized Ikonso Leader, the overall commander of the insurgents in the Southeast, and six other armed fighters from the insurgent party. Commander Ikonso is the group’s Vice President designate and the coordinator of the group’s militia operations.
He planned and orchestrated the assault on the Imo Police Headquarters, as well as many other assaults on security and military personnel and facilities.
The operation is part of a concerted effort by the police and other security forces to suppress separatist activities in Imo State and other states in the country’s South East and South South regions.

The security team rescued the remains of Ikonso Commander and six (6) of his fighters after a fierce gun battle. The insurgents were found with a variety of sophisticated weapons, including six AK47 rifles, hundreds of rounds of various calibers, and several charms, including bullet Proof charms.
At the time of writing, three police officers and one army officer were being treated for severe bullet wounds suffered during an exchange of gunfire with insurgents.
