BREAKING: Fubara’s LGA Caretaker Chairmen Begin Official Duties, Dissolve All Standing Committees

Despite being unable to access their local government secretariats, the newly inaugurated caretaker committee chairmen for local government areas in Rivers State have commenced their official duties.

On Thursday morning, many of them announced the dissolution of all standing committees within their respective local government areas.

During their inauguration in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the chairmen were instructed by Governor Fubara to avoid any violent confrontations and to operate from any suitable location within their councils.

Some chairmen inaugurated their committee members outside the gates of their councils, while others conducted similar functions in customary courts and hotels.

Prior to the inauguration, police had taken control of all council secretariats due to violent clashes on Tuesday that resulted in the deaths of a policeman and a member of a vigilante group.

David Omereji, Chairman of Emohua, reportedly inaugurated his committee members at the Customary Court in Rumuji after being unable to access the local government council secretariat.

Promise Reginald, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Omuma Local Government Area, dissolved all standing committees and directed affected individuals to hand over council property to his office immediately. He stated, “The dissolution is with immediate effect.”

In Asari Toru Local Government Area, CTC Chairman Orolosama Peter Amachree ordered the dissolution of all appointments, committees, and task forces established by the previous administration. He emphasized, “The directive includes the transfer of all council properties to the office of the chairman.”

Amb Ihunwo Chijioke, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee in Obio-Akpor, similarly dissolved all standing committees and directed affected persons to surrender council property to his office. He warned, “Companies operating in Obio Akpor local government area should also take note of the development and stop dealing with fake agents and unauthorized persons.”

Furthermore, Chijioke instructed security agencies to arrest and prosecute impersonators in the area.
